What to Look for in an Infrared Sauna Blanket

Infrared sauna blankets are powerful tool when it comes to relaxation by manipulating the body temperature. They heat up the body’s surface to such an extend that the core will necessarily drop to a level, on which you will feel deeply relaxed and drowsy enough to soon fall asleep.

Here’s what you have to look for when chosing one:

  • The sauna blanket should heat up to at least 80°C (176°F) and have a power output of 600W. Less might not be enough in the long-run.
  • Make sure the blanket fits your height. Conventional ones witht 180cm (70.8in) length (measured without bottom flap) are suited for a height of up to around 185cm (6.1 feet).
  • Wear long cotton underwar in the blanket to soak up all the sweat.
  • Make sure the blanket is free from wrinkles when using it; the heating elements get very hot and can cause wrinkled areas to melt.
  • Put a camping mat under the blanket to prevent heat spots or a melting of the underground.
  • Use the blanket on a deckchair or maybe an old mattress. Your bed or couch is less optimal given the sweating and possible heat spots.
  • You can expect the full effect from 30-45 minutes at full heat; don’t overdo it in the beginning.
  • When you’re done, take a warm shower. A cold one would only shock your system and wake you up. Then go to sleep.

Infrared sauna blankets are very robust and save to use. They will be good for at least 1,000 sessions resulting in around 30-40 Cents per session, depending on your setup and location (prices early 2025). This can be considered a bargain given their powerful effect on your sleep and well-being in general.

In case you have any concerns, please consult your doctor before using one.
